Wayne Sawyer, with his wife Teresa and his father Paul, provided the initial funding that made The Virginia Prostate Center (later SURF) possible. He continued to be a strong supporter and advocate of prostate cancer research and clinical trials. His early investments made possible the creation of the proteomics lab at Eastern Virginia Medical School, initially developed by Dr. George Wright and now under the direction of Dr. John Semmes. His continued support helped fund quality of life research conducted by fellows in the Urology of Virginia Endourology program and which have received recognition through publications in the US and Europe. Urology of Virginia and SURF are grateful for the support of the Sawyer family and recognize the important role they have played in the success of our clinical and basic research activities.
